Have a Lovely Weekend!

Pinned Image

Where has March gone? It'll be Memorial Day before you know it! I'm ready for summer to be here though. I'm even planning to lay out on the dock tomorrow! It's time I start getting a little color on my pasty-white skin. You know you're too pale when the lightest makeup you can buy is still too dark. :( It's like I'm a Twilight character. And then there's my husband who got his base tan at the beginning of March and is getting darker by the day. Ugh. Maybe I'll just have to become a frequent customer at the Mystic Tanning booth. Don't judge me if you see me and I look like Snooki.

I hope you get to enjoy some nice weather this weekend! Here are some posts from around the Web.

I love free fonts.

A great spring outfit.

Lovely mani.

DIY watering can.

My dream car.

Dashing kitty.

Cute shoes.

Need these.

Guaranteed to make you giggle (primarily if you love cats).

Cool Redball project.

Thirsty Thursday - Champagne Cocktails

I love making cocktails with champagne so I was excited to see this cheat sheet. I've come up with some delicious concoctions myself, but I never thought to mix Midori or Guinness with champagne.

I'm inspired by these mixtures. Oh the possibilities!

Painted Wooden Spoons

I don't even own one wooden spoon, but if I had lots of them, I'd paint them like these. They'd be so pretty sticking up out of a utensil crock, don't you think? And, they'd make a fun housewarming gift (bundled in new dish towels and wrapped in ribbon).

We're Back!

Just like any anticipated event, vacation came and went too quickly. We had lots of fun in the Black Hills; skiing, hot tubbing and relaxing with friends. I can't wait to go back.

Here are some photos from our trip.

Have a Fun Weekend (and Week)!

We're headed on vacation, folks. I hope you have a fun St. Patrick's Day and a great week!

And, I've been so busy preparing for the trip that I haven't had time to gather any links :( But, isn't that champagne cooler incredible?! I need that in my house.

I'm also taking a blogging vacation. You can look forward to regularly scheduled programing on 3/26/12.

You're Getting Sleepy

Very sleepy...

Bed lvl: creative

Aren't these beds fun? I want the suspended one. I think it would be like sleeping on a cloud, which I'm guessing is amazing. That or the cheeseburger bed. It makes me hungry.

March's Birchbox

It's pretty safe to say that this month's Birchbox is my favorite so far. I love everything that came in it. I can't even pick a favorite. Here's a breakdown of what came.

I've seen the Twistbands around the internet and never really understood them. But having one of my own now, I get their appeal -- they're adorable! It's really just a fancy hair tie, but they come in fun colors and are thick so they leave less of an ugly crease behind. Neat, huh?

I think my favorite item this month was tarte's LipSurgence lip tint. It's super moisturizing and the stain/gel formula goes on easy and lasts for hours.

I'm currently battling dry hair so I'm excited to have received a sample of Kérastase Elixir Ultime. I'm still a slave to Biosilk, but after how soft this left my hair, I may have to reconsider next time I need to buy hair oil.

I've been wanting to buy a glitter overcoat since the holidays, but could never decide on a color. This month Birchbox made up my mind for me and sent a bottle of essie Luxeffects nail polish in a cut above, a soft girly pink that's perfect for spring. I'm wearing it now and feel a little bit like a Barbie when I look at my hands. That's a good thing, I think.

And, last but not least, I also received a sample of Kate Spade's Twirl perfume. It's a fruity floral scent that's still sophisicated, but not overpowering. I don't know that it's something I would buy a full bottle of, but it's fun to have a sample to wear occasionally.

Want to get your own Birchbox each month? Check it out here.

Peanut Butter Pie

I’ve never been good at resisting my sweet tooth, but this recipe gives me a little less to worry about.

Normally, reduced-fat ingredients aren’t as good, but in the case of this peanut butter pie, you’d never know the difference. And, it’s super easy to make.

Ingredients
  • 8 oz. reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 8 oz. light whipped topping, thawed
  • ½ C powdered sugar
  • ½ C reduced-fat peanut butter
  • 1 prepared reduced-fat graham cracker pie crust or 1 prepared granola pie crust
  • Chocolate syrup for drizzling (optional)

Directions

In a large bowl, mix cream cheese and powdered sugar until blended. Add peanut butter and mix until blended. Fold in whipped topping. Pour mixture into pie shell. Refrigerate for an hour before serving.

Enjoy!

For me, this weekend will be spent preparing for next. We're headed on vacation in just a few short days, and I'm so excited. I literally shudder with joy when I think about it (I doing it right now. Ahhhhhhh!!!).

This weekend's task is to plan a week's wardrobe that will fit into one bag. Maybe first I need to go shopping for a giant bag. Hmmm.

I hope your weekend is fun! Here are some posts from around the Web.

Great cozy look.

Thrifty Thursday -- Watching the Scanner

When I was younger and would go grocery shopping with my mom, she would always closely watch the grocery store checkout scanner. I thought she was crazy -- I just trusted that the cashier was ringing things up correctly. Mom was right, though. She would catch mistakes all the time. Her savings were proof enough for me.

Now I watch the scanner, too, and frequently catch mistakes. Just last week I was over rang by $5 in one shopping trip. Over-rings like that could add up fast! It doesn't happen every time I'm at the store, but it happens often enough to make me to pay attention.

If you watch closer, I'm sure you'll notice an occasional mis-rang item, too!

In a Perfect World

perfect world In a perfect world...
So true. If I could pick at least two, I'd like for stickers to come off clean (that drives me crazy), and I'd like to always have a full battery, when it's needed.

Which ones would you pick?

Under-Eye Shadow

For girls with small eyes, shadow under your eyes can make a big impact without making your eyes looks closed. It seems like it might be a tough look to pull off, but The Beauty Department gives some tips on how to get the look.

Would you wear shadow under your eyes?

Sauerkraut Soup

I realize sauerkraut soup doesn't sound that appetizing, but this is one of those things you really need to try before you write it off.

We recently had reuben sandwiches for lunch and I had some sauerkraut to use up, so I looked up a few recipes. This one had nothing but great reviews so I decided to give it a try.

I wanted to try to reduce the calories of the original recipe and also, cook it in an hour instead of a crock pot. Jeff and I both loved it, so much I've made it twice in the last week!

Here's the recipe I used, adapted from allrecipes.com.

1 (10.75 oz.) can reduced-fat condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (10.75 oz.) can reduced-fat condensed cream of chicken soup
2 1/2 C water
4 C chicken broth
1/2 pound sauerkraut
1 onion, finely diced
1 pound carrots, peeled and sliced
1 pound red potatoes, scrubbed and sliced
1 pound smoked turkey sausage, sliced
1 t dried dill weed
2 cloves garlic, minced
salt and pepper to taste

In a 6 quart stock pot, boil the sliced carrots, potatoes, and onion until tender, drain. Meanwhile, blend the cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, water, and chicken broth in a separate bowl, pour over the cooked vegetables and bring to a boil. In a medium skillet, fry the sliced turkey sausage and garlic until hot, add to stock pot. Season with dill, salt and pepper.

Have a Wonderful Weekend!

Pinned Image

Hi there! I'm happy it's Friday even though I have no significant weekend plans. Something on my to-do list is do laundry, iron everything that needs it and take another load of clothes and things to the local consignment shops. My closet is in desperate need of some love and now is as good of a time as any. I'm using the above photo as inspiration. I could really use that shoe storage!

How about you? Is it too early to start your spring cleaning?

I hope you have a great weekend. Here are some posts from around the Web.

Do you look like your home?

Playing with the moon.

Thrifty Thursday – Navigating Craigslist

Minus the creepy Missed Connections section of Craigslist, I’m a fan of the site. We bought our washer and dryer and sold a like-new XL twin mattress set there. It's a great place to find used stuff you could'nt afford to buy new. The main downfall of Craigslist, in my opinion, is its ease of use, or lack thereof.

I saw a post on View along the Way about Craigslist shopping tips, and it blew my mind. Everyone needs to know these things!

First, let me tell you about Craiggers. It’s all the Craigslist content, but it’s user-friendly. You can see photos without having to click through each post and you can search using more specific criteria. Amazing.

Second, I’m not into stealing full posts, so go check out more Craigslist navigation tips here. Seriously, click. There’s some good stuff over there.

Happy Craigslising!
